Travel through time

Zayed National Museum traces the history of the UAE from prehistoric times all the way to the present. Inspired by Sheikh Zayed’s belief that history guides the future, the museum explores the values that built the nation.

Spend a few hours exploring for a unique opportunity to discover the emirate’s heritage and experience authentic Emirati culture through exhibitions, research and public programmes.

Collection highlights

Among the museum’s highlights are a moon rock gifted by NASA after the historic Apollo 17 trip and several precious objects illustrating the UAE’s story across thousands of years.

A rare Abbasid bronze lamp and a finely carved rock crystal dish showcase the artistry and trade networks of the early Islamic world, while an 8,000-year-old natural pearl from Marawah Island serves as the earliest evidence of pearl diving in the UAE.

The architecture

The striking building, inspired by a falcon in flight, forms the centrepiece of Saadiyat Cultural District. Five towers reinterpret traditional barjeel wind towers, marrying heritage with climate-conscious engineering.

Inside, the structure draws on the land’s natural cooling properties, while native plants and a traditional falaj irrigation system in the garden pay homage to Sheikh Zayed’s connection to desert, oasis and urban landscapes.
