The building is designed by Jean Nouvel, winner of the Pritzker Prize, architecture's highest honour and it draws attention.
The centrepiece is a vast silvery dome, 180 metres wide and weighing 7,500 tons, roughly the same as the Eiffel Tower. The dome was inspired by the interlocking geometry of Arabic cupolas and is made up of 7,850 stars arranged in eight layers. As sunlight passes through, it casts shifting geometric patterns across the museum below, an effect Nouvel called the 'rain of light'.

For dining, Fouquet’s Abu Dhabi sits within the museum, a French brasserie that follows the legacy of the original on the Champs-Élysées in Paris.
