Organised by Department of Culture and Tourism - Abu Dhabi
The Department of Culture and Tourism – Abu Dhabi (DCT Abu Dhabi) is a custodian of the national identity and cultural history of the United Arab Emirates through the safeguarding and promotion of its traditional handicrafts and heritage.
Under the patronage of H.H. Sheikh Tahnoon bin Mohammed Al Nahyan, the Ruler's Representative of Al Ain Region, the 6th National Traditional Handicrafts Festival is a platform to encourage and support practitioners of these crafts. This year's festival will be held under the theme 'Crafts of the Ancestors, Pride of the People'.
The festival continues to be a window through which we can cherish our past and appreciate the ingenuity of our ancestors, who repurposed accessible resources to meet their needs and to improve their lives.
These handicrafts are our community’s heritage but continue to play a part in our lives; there are many who admire the achievements of our ancestors. When we look at these handmade items, we appreciate the effort that went into making them, the warmth of the fingers that worked on them and we relive stories told under the moonlight and in the shade of the palm trees.
The festival will feature:
- Traditional performances
- Cultural and heritage competitions
- Displays of falconry skills
- Exhibits and presentations by traditional artisans
- Traditional market
- Hospitality traditions
