The President’s Cup Falcon Competition is being organised for its second edition from 15 to 27 January 2015, with the generous support of the UAE President His Highness Sheikh Khalifa Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, and under the guidance of His Highness Mohamed Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, the Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces, His Highness Sheikh Hamdan Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, the Ruler’s representative in the Western Union and President of Emirates Falconers’ Club, and under the supervision of His Highness Sheikh Nahyan Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of Abu Dhabi Sports Club. This competition is organised by Abu Dhabi Falconers’ Club with the aim of preserving past achievements and supporting the UAE’s heritage and ancestral sports.
The second President’s Cup Falcon Competition is building on the success of the inaugural event, which saw unprecedented levels of participation from falconers and excellence achieved in all the different rounds. The Abu Dhabi Falconers’ Club have this year added lots of new features to further enrich the competitions and make the second event even more successful.
The second President’s Cup Falcon Competition will feature three main disciplines (Telwah, Falcon training with balloons and Falcon training with wireless aircraft), in addition to the final rounds of the Challenge Cup, Telwah Cup and Golden Telwah. The Abu Dhabi Falconers’ Club has also added a category for falcon owners to allow members of the general public who own five or less falcons to participate in the competitions. In addition, there are also new categories for members of the public who own five or more falcons, as well as the Sheikhs category. These categories are the first of their kind at the state level and the Abu Dhabi Falconers’ Club will also now allow falcon chicks that are than one year old to participate in the competitions.
Abu Dhabi Falconers’ Club is also proud to announce that the prize fund has now been increased to AED 25,000,000 and 56 cars to add more challenge and excitement to the event. Furthermore, Abu Dhabi Falconers’ Club will also launch its global initiative of the smart electronic ring to be put around the falcon’s leg to provide accurate information about the speed of the falcon and the flight distance, which is first of its kind at this global level. This initiative is in line with the ADFC’s keenness to apply the latest technologies and use the best tools in order to promote falconry while keeping abreast of the latest technological developments. Finally, the second edition will also feature the Falconer of the Season award based on the points he gains and his performance in the three final competitions.
