With the help of two successful artists; Rawda Al Ketbi and Rashed Al Falasi, Warehouse 421 is offering an unexpected art form workshop: rusting. Rust is usually thought of as a reddish-brown color, but when copper is exposed to natural elements, the layer of corrosion that forms on its surface; known as patina becomes distinctive blue-green. This colour has really captivated many artists that a patina finish is often given to building facades and design objects like jewellery.
Different combinations and levels of chemicals and other materials are used to vary the texture and vibrancy of patina. The workshop also shows how a “torch painting” is made by applying an ignited torch to copper.
