As part of the Abu Dhabi Classics season, Milan’s highly acclaimed Scala Academy orchestra comes to Abu Dhabi with one of today’s top young conductors, Mikhail Tatarnikov, music director of the legendary Mikhailovsky Theatre in St. Petersburg, Russia.
On the programme for their first Abu Dhabi Classics season concert are Schumann’s fantastic Piano Concerto in A minor performed with French piano star David Fray and Tchaikovski’s Symphony Nr. 4, which like no other piece of the late 19th century expresses the struggle of high human aspirations amongst an increasingly deceiving reality.
The Orchestra Accademia Teatro all Scala is closely linked to the Scala that ranks amongst the most prestigious institutions in the field of classical music. The Orchestra has already performed in theatres and festivals of international renown, such as the Teatro alla Scala, the Conservatorio di Torino, Teatro Grande in Brescia, Greek Theatre of Pompeii and the Ravello Festival.
It has made numerous tours, including in 2008 to the UAE, and, with the Teatro alla Scala in 2009 in Denmark, in 2010 in Russia (Moscow and St. Petersburg) and in 2011 and 2012 in Oman. Each year, the orchestra participates in the ‘Academy Project’, a work included in the Scala season, but left entirely to the students.
