Oceans Under Climate Stress

Organised by New York University Abu Dhabi Institute

Our oceans are becoming increasingly acidic as a result of rising atmospheric concentrations of carbon dioxide.

Concomitantly, more than 90% of the warming caused by human carbon emissions is absorbed by the world’s oceans. As they warm up, oceans lose oxygen essential for marine life.

Together, these effects amplify one another and put marine species and ecosystems under great stress, threatening a vital source of food and income for human societies.

This lecture discusses the cause of these environmental changes, explores their interactions and how they are impacting marine ecosystems.

Event speaker:
Zouhair Lachkar, Senior Scientist, Center for Prototype Climate Modeling (CPCM), at NYUAD
