Organised by New York University Abu Dhabi Institute
The 'From Child Soldier to NY Times Best-Selling Author & UNICEF’s First Advocate for Children Affected by War' talk is part of New York University Abu Dhabi's (NYUAD) 'Peace Fellows Lecture' series and Residency Program 2019 to 2020 series.
Ishmael Beah was recruited as a child soldier to fight in the Sierra Leone Civil War when he was thirteen years old.
This talk explores how he survived the brutality of the war, before evolving into the renowned author of 'A Long Way Gone: Memoirs of a Boy Soldier' and UNICEF’s First Advocate for Children Affected by War in 2007.
The Washington Post has also given recognition to Beah, highlighting that 'everyone in the world should read Beah’s memoir to learn about the world and what it means to be human'.
