Documentary screening: Eva Hesse

Organised by Warehouse421

Filmmakers have always been interested in artists, not only in terms of their works but also their biographies and personalities. Throughout this fall and winter, Warehouse421 will showcase a series of films about the lives of artists – from a respected classicist to a forgery expert.

The screenings are presented in collaboration with the german cultural association Goethe-Institut.
Eva Hesse died in 1970, but her name remains synonymous with modernist art. Today the renowned German-American sculptor’s work belongs to the permanent collections of a number of important museums such as the Whitney and MoMa in New York, the Centre Pompidou in Paris, and the Tate Modern in London.

This documentary film, screened at Warehouse421, tells the story of Hesse’s life and career through interviews with her contemporaries and loved ones, images of her artwork, and recently discovered archive photographs. Eva Hesse is directed by Marcie Begleiter, whose book From Word to Image: Storyboarding and the Filmmaking Process appears on syllabi at film schools around the world.

** The film is PG13
