Abdulaziz's Abu Dhabi Experience

I've been running along the Corniche since before it looked like this. Early morning, before the city gets loud, it's just me, the water, and the rhythm of my feet on the same ground I've known my whole life. But when I don't have a run scheduled, you'll find me cycling or at the gym. Having grown up here in this city, Abu Dhabi is very much part of who I am.

There's a pride in being part of a city that moves this fast, that builds this boldly. But between meetings, I'll catch a glimpse of an older facade on a street in Al Khalidiya, and something in me settles. That contrast, the glass towers and the quiet old neighbourhoods, isn't a tension for me. It's the whole story. Abu Dhabi carries the past forward with it, and so do I.

Come evening, I slow down and meet friends at a coffee shop the way people do when they share a city's entire history. We remember the old landmarks, the streets that looked so different and somehow felt the same. That kind of friendship and conversation only exists when you've stayed long enough to have something to look back on together.

People often describe this city as dynamic, evolving, visionary, and all of that is true. But for me, Abu Dhabi is something quieter than that. It's the place where my memories live in the streets. Where I don't need to explain who I am, because this city already knows. I didn't arrive here looking for belonging. I was born into it. And I'm grateful that it's exactly where I'm supposed to be.
