Getting around Abu Dhabi by taxi or ridesharing is straightforward and widely available, whether you’re travelling between attractions in the city or heading to and from the airport.
Taxis
Abu Dhabi’s metered taxis are plentiful and easy to use. You can hail a taxi from the street, find one at designated ranks outside malls, hotels and attractions, or book in advance through the Abu Dhabi Taxi app or by calling TransAD on 600 535 353.
City taxis are easily recognised by their silver body and yellow roof sign. Most drivers speak English, and journeys are metered and regulated.
As with taxis anywhere, it’s a good idea to keep your receipt at the end of the journey. If you leave something behind, these details make it much easier for the taxi company to identify the vehicle and contact the driver.
Transport for families and passengers with additional needs
Dedicated family taxis are available in four- and seven-seater options, designed for groups or families travelling with children. Abu Dhabi also offers a fleet of accessible taxis equipped to support wheelchair users and People of Determination, with trained drivers and adapted vehicles.
To ensure availability and specific requirements are met, booking these services in advance is always a good idea.
Ridesharing services
Popular app-based ridesharing platforms Uber and Careem both operate extensively across Abu Dhabi.
Services range from standard rides to larger vehicles and premium options, with fares calculated based on distance and journey time. Both apps are widely used and familiar to visitors, making them a convenient choice for getting around the city.
Airport taxis
Taxis are readily available at Zayed International Airport, with dedicated airport taxi ranks operating around the clock. A journey from the airport into the city typically costs around AED 70–80, including the initial flag fall, depending on your destination and traffic conditions.
Larger and premium taxi options are also available at the airport for passengers travelling in groups or with additional luggage.
