Meetings

When conducting business meetings in Abu Dhabi, there are a few important elements to consider. It’s important to be viewed as honest and discreet. Once a verbal commitment has been clearly made, it’s considered ethically, if not legally, binding.

Other points to consider include:

  • Dress code is more conservative and visitors will be appreciated for their modest choices. If in doubt, just follow the lead of local residents.
  • Discussions are usually conducted with quiet dignity and friendliness. Remember that it is considered rude to point directly at someone.
  • Face-to-face meetings are still the preferred method of negotiating and conducting business. Be punctual but remain patient if kept waiting. Delayed meetings are common so maintain a flexible schedule.
  • Expect some introductory small talk before getting down to business. Be positive about your experiences in Abu Dhabi and keep in mind that many Emiratis are exceptionally well-travelled.
