How far is Liwa from Abu Dhabi city?
Liwa is around 250 kilometres from Abu Dhabi, which works out to roughly two and a half to three hours' drive each way.
Is this a realistic day trip, or better as an overnight?
Both can work, but the drive alone accounts for five to six hours of the day. An overnight at Qasr Al Sarab or a similar Al Dhafra hotel allows more time in the Empty Quarter and more opportunities to connect with Bedouin heritage.
Is Tal Moreeb worth visiting outside festival season?
Yes. Tel Moreeb and the surrounding Empty Quarter are open to visit year-round, though the Liwa International Festival, held in winter, adds motorsport events and family activities around the dune for a three-week period.
