Join Guggenheim Abu Dhabi for a series of programmes that celebrate the life and career of American artist Jean-Michel Basquiat, whose painting Cabra, 1981-82, was acquired by Guggenheim Abu Dhabi for its permanent collection, and is currently on view at Louvre Abu Dhabi.
The programme will include a film screening, a panel discussion and Canal Zone themed party.
Hear from an intimate group of Jean-Michel Basquiat’s close collaborators and friends, Jeffrey Deitch, and Leonard “Futura” Hilton McGurr, who will share their personal experiences with the artist. Moderated by Basquiat scholar Chaédria LaBouvier, this conversation will also examine his artistic legacy and how Basquiat’s works continues to influence artists, popular culture, and an array of contemporary issues today.
The panel includes a 20-minute version of the film Jean-Michel Basquiat: The Radiant Child, which was shown at the 2006 Sundance Film Festival.
