Due to Abu Dhabi’s strategic location as a middle point between three continents and at a busy transportation route that connects all parts of the world, there is no major destination around the globe that is not linked with Abu Dhabi in a direct or a single-connection flight. So, getting to Abu Dhabi by air is quite easy, whether via one of the emirate’s two international airports or neighbouring airports in other emirates, the nearest of which (Dubai International Airport) is only an hour-and-half drive and the farthest (Fujairah International Airport) is hardly two-and-half hours away on freeways.
By land, Abu Dhabi is accessible from border crossings with Saudi Arabia and Oman via freeways. There is no passenger service available yet for sea travellers to Abu Dhabi ports. However, luxury cruise boats can dock at the neighbouring emirate of Dubai.
Beside the standard ban or restrictions on certain items imposed on travellers, such as highly inflammable material, pornography or illegal drugs, there are additional ban on several drugs that may be sold with or without prescription in other countries, including all cough syrups containing codeine (For a full list on banned or restricted material, please refer to Abu Dhabi International Airport website or consult the nearest UAE embassy or travel agent). There are no vaccine requirements for travellers to Abu Dhabi. All visitors are required to follow normal visa procedures.
