It reads like a ‘Who’s Who’ of the art world. Adel Abidin, Frank Gehry, Richard Armstrong, Jean Nouvel, Subodh Gupta, Bharti Kher, Stuart Haygarth, Abdulnasser Gharem, Ghada Amer, Mohammed Kazem and Marina Abramovic (her Arabian debut) are just some of the names attending this year’s Abu Dhabi Art (November 7-10, UAE Pavilion & Manarat al Saadiyat). They will sit on more than 20 panels and interviews for topics from the search for the ‘centre of the Art World’ and the vision and architecture of Guggenheim Abu Dhabi to the complimentary roles played by non-profit and commercial entities in the region.
Featuring exhibitions, film-screenings (in collaboration with the Sharjah Art Foundation), more than 10 live performances and book launches, the 2012 programme also introduces an exciting line-up of live music for its Abu Dhabi Art Plaza Evenings where visitors can take in Saadiyat Island’s charm. Don’t miss the Arab rock band Autostrad on Thursday, November 8 and the electronic art-band Noise of Art on Friday, November 9.
Children can take part in several workshops and games as part of Art Zone, including a game played with Tikkei (oversized Emirati cushions).
