Gourmet Abu Dhabi gets jazzy finale

The much-loved Afif Jazz Band - a UAE-based musical duo that hails from Lebanon and has performed at some of the world's top jazz festivals, including Java (Jakarta), Mongo (Brussels) and WOMAD (Abu Dhabi) - will entertain 300-plus guests at the five-star Rocco Forte Abu Dhabi for the Gourmet Stars Awards ceremony – the thrilling finale to the Gourmet Abu Dhabi culinary festival.

With Afif Jazz Band providing a funky soundtrack, five international and local masterchefs will combine their collective culinary skills – which include six Michelin stars - to create a dazzling five-course menu.

For starters, two-Michelin-starred Chef Denis Martin will be in charge of the kitchen; the Swiss masterchef will then step aside for Chef Khulood Atiq - the first Emirati female to participate in the festival - who will prepare a locally-inspired second course. Rocco Forte Abu Dhabi’s Executive Chef, Paolo Verzeni, will create the third course, before Spain’s two-Michelin-starred Chef Rodrigo de la Calle – best known as the pioneer of ‘Gastrobotanics’, a culinary form which redefines and champions undervalued or overlooked vegetable species - takes over for the fourth course. Two-Michelin-starred Chef Shawn Gawle, voted New York’s Rising Pastry Star in 2011, is in charge of desserts.

The Gourmet Stars Awards dinner will take place on Thursday, February 23, from 7-11pm. Limited tickets at AED990 per person (US $270), or AED8,910 (US $2,428) for a table of 10, are still available and can be bought at the festival’s official website: www.gourmetabudhabi.ae
