After tantalising diners’ taste-buds during Gourmet Abu Dhabi, which runs across 20 of the UAE capital’s top restaurants until February 23, celebrity Chef George Calombaris – a judge and mentor on hit TV show, Masterchef Australia – was boiling over with enthusiasm following a few ‘Hot Laps’ around Yas Marina Circuit – home of the Formula One™ Etihad Airways Abu Dhabi Grand Prix.

With Yas Racing School’s chief instructor, Jan Vanmeerbeek taking the wheel of a Yas Supersport SST, Chef Calombaris strapped into the passenger seat as the pair hurtled around the 5.5 kilometre track, reaching speeds of up to 240kilometres per hour on the straight. And despite the SST’s break-neck top speed, it was the circuit’s 21 corners that had the international TV star’s adrenaline pumping when he returned to the paddock.

Even if you’re not a top chef, you can still get to grips with Yas Marina Circuit through a series of track day packages, including ‘Driver Experiences’, ‘Passenger Experiences’, ‘Private Driving Tuition’ programmes and ‘Racing License Courses’.
