Cartoonival curtain call for Summer in Abu Dhabi 2011

July 06, 2011

Summer in Abu Dhabi, the month-long family festival of international acts, shows and edutainment concepts running at Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Centre (ADNEC) until July 30, will reach a fabulous finale with the Middle East debut of Cartoon Network’s Cartoonival – the kids’ television channel’s first live action show.

With daily performances at 3pm matinee, plus a 7:30pm show on weekends, Cartoonival features a cast of Cartoon Network’s most well-loved characters, including the Powerpuff Girls, Bloo and the Gang from Foster’s Home for Imaginary Friends, Dexter’s Laboratory stars, Dexter the Boy Genius and his meddling sister, Didi, as well as Hi Hi Puffy Ami Yumi and special guest monkey, Mojo Jojo.

Cartoonival’s July 21-29 run at ADNEC marks only the second time the visually exciting, colourful, chaotic and in-your-face show has ever been performed. Audience participation is the heartbeat of the plot, with spectators encouraged to make as much noise as they can to help Bloo, the Powerpuff Girls and the rest of the show’s 14 heroes and heroines stop evil Mojo Jojo from taking over the carnival – the first part in the dastardly villain’s plan for world domination.

Staged in ADNEC’s 5,000-capacity Abu Dhabi Hall, the 70-minute live action spectacular will bring the curtain down on a month of edutainment concepts and recreational activities spread across four action-packed halls.

With entry rates of AED 20 (US$ 5.5) for children aged up to 12 years old – toddlers up to two years old go free - and AED 40 (US$ 11) for adults, the festival represents tremendous entertainment and edutainment value in ADNEC halls 9-11. Combined in to one huge fun zone, the all-new ‘Adventure World’, ‘Smurf World’ and ‘Career World’ are expected to be big favourites with kids, while ‘Show World’ - a specially-constructed, 120-capacity theatre - will feature twice-daily shows by international favourites such as SpongeBob SquarePants, Dora The Explorer, as well as Marvel’s Thor, Wolverine and Dr. Doom. The ADNEC halls will be open from 3-9pm on weekdays and 2-10pm on weekends.

Tickets also entitle visitors to a host of other discount deals around the emirate’s various attractions, hotels and tour operators, including a ‘Kids Go Free’ offer at the fabulous Ferrari World Abu Dhabi – the world’s biggest indoor theme park and home to ‘Formula Rossa’, the world’s fastest rollercoaster - for kids under 1.5 metres in height.

Other ‘Buy Two Get One Free’ and ‘Two For One’ deals will run throughout 12 mainline attractions, which include Big Bus Tours, the Caracal Shooting Club, Al Ain Wildlife Park & Resort, the vast Al Forsan International Sports Resort, the thrilling Al Ain Raceway, speedy Yellow Boats, Falcon Aviation’s helicopter tours, Al Ain’s refurbished Hili Fun City, the iconic Yas Marina Circuit, Abu Dhabi Golf Club and Saadiyat Beach Golf Club.
