‘Suhour’ is the word for the period / meal just before the dawn fast.’ Iftar’ is the meal which breaks the fast (at dusk) and ‘Taraweeh’ refers to extra prayers by Muslims at night in the Month of Ramadan.

Local cafes and restaurants are generally closed until sunset while hotel restaurants are open, although some may be screened off from view.  Many of the restaurants have lavish ‘Iftar’ buffets – many taking place in specially erected Ramadan tents - as the breaking of the fast is a very sociable time, special foods, which are often delicious, are eaten and this is an ideal time to try them.  A visit to a Ramadan tent is recommended.
