  • Exhibition of winning photographs, Emirates Photography Competition 2010
Photographers from around the world are invited to submit their work to the International Emirates Photography Competition (EPC) 2012 – the seventh in the annual series - which is being held under the patronage of the International Federation of Photographic Art (FIAP) and this year carries a prize purse of over US $135,000.

Entry deadline is September 30, and a jury of international experts, including acclaimed Arab photographers, will review submissions in October with the winners due to be honoured in a special prize ceremony mid November in Abu Dhabi. The competition’s overarching theme is ‘Cultural Reflections,’ to mirror the rich diversity of people's lives and identities worldwide. For the first time, the competition will also feature a special prize recognising ‘Fine Arts in Photography.’

The winning photographs will go on show to the general public in a two-month exhibition, which will run from mid-November at the Manarat Al Saadiyat exhibition centre on Saadiyat Island. The winning entries will also be featured in a limited edition book, which over the past two years has won +5 stars FIAB catalogue rating and a recognition from the Photographic Society of America and the United Photographers International Organisation.

The competition’s general themes include environment, portrait, sports, close-ups (macro) and ‘Future Image Through Future Eyes’ for photographers aged under 21. Additional special prizes include: the Emirati Talent Award; Emirati Photographer Award of 2012; Emirati Photo Award; Arab Photo Award; Best Photographer Award and a Photography Clubs Award.

EPC 2012 pays tribute to the work of celebrated Iraqi photographer Murad Al-Daghistani (1917-1982), who was a leader in contemporary Arab photography.
