Liwa Date Festival (July 12 – 18, Al Gharbia) will feature a rich selection of heritage-related activities and its signature Ratab Beauty Competition. Ratab is a sought-after half-ripe date which comes in seven types.
Festival goers can also view a ‘Best Heritage Show’ contest, as well as competitions for the ‘Best Mangoes’ and ‘Best Lemons’ in the local and mixed categories. These will be complemented by a date cooking competition, handicrafts contest and other cultural and heritage-related activities.
The festival will also feature a souk and bazaar selling handicrafts made by more than 300 Emirati families as well as a Children’s Corner with a selection of educational and entertaining activities.
A recent official study confirmed the UAE as the world’s leading date exporter, with control over 33 per cent of world exports, amounting to 266,000 tonnes going to over 30 countries.
